Futures and options are contract-based investments traded on the world's financial exchanges. With regard to futures, both parties are obligated to act on behalf of the contract, with options, the burden lies with the seller. When trading futures, there are no contract premiums traded between buyer and seller, only the price of the contract whereas with options, a contract premium is paid by the buyer to the seller. Futures and options trading must be looked at individually and the differences should be recognized and understood by the investor before laying out cash to commence trading.
